Today is a funny day…not laughing funny….just funny

It is so strange for me to have nothing planned and nothing to do. I love a list and a plan. I am waiting for tomorrow to meet my new colleagues and journey on to Derby and Broome. But today I just have to be …..

We got to move out of our tradie’s accommodation and move to the fancy motel rooms. Which ordinarily you probably wouldn’t call fancy, but I feel like a princess, they have two windows!! Tradie’s accommodation had no windows. We humans really crave light and a view….pretty much any view is okay.

After the move we went for a little run-after sitting for days (and eating car snacks) my body feels so heavy. I am not sure if I even made a kilometer but Rob said I did 🙂 We had to run through the bush and I scared some poor little Kangaroos and got lots of prickles in my socks and scratched up my legs. (watching for snakes not where I was running)

Rob decided to go for a ride, he bought some super duper prickle proof tubes for my bike in Alice Springs-they were no match for Fitzroy Crossing prickles-he got a flat and had to return. Whilst Rob was riding I went to IGA. The only shop in town. There were a group of kids riding their bikes and scooters out the front of IGA, literally out the front, it is airconditioned and there is a TV playing. They didn’t bother me, but did nearly run me over 🙂 I wonder what you do in a town like this to entertain yourself. There is a recreational centre but it got damaged in the flood, the guy told me yesterday. In September, the pool reopens. There is footy…

I met a lovely older local man and two women sitting out the front of IGA. …just sitting. I said hello. The man mentioned that I wouldn’t get lost (I am wearing a reddish shirt) and we started a yarn. He told me he used to work in the daycare center and he has been to Victoria once. He said he went to Falls Creek and was “The only black snowman there”. He made me feel happy.

When Rob is riding I am taken by how quiet it is here. Everyone seems to have left the resort, town is quiet and the river is quiet. Are locals on the long weekend holiday, or is it always this quiet I wonder?

I am wondering how I will entertain my brain when Rob has gone. I have brought knitting, books, coloring in and painting with me. But my brain tends to do a running dialogue and it will be strange to have no one to constantly dialogue with. Usually it is my work friends each day; Rob, the boys, friends. Even though I do like time to just be quiet and in my own head-3 months in my own head….hmmmm…maybe it will be good for me…maybe I will come up with an amazing plan?

The little kangaroos I scared and Brolgas. Rob named them Bevan and Brandy-they were very graceful.
