Mimbi caves

We had a tour of Mimbi caves today, just an hour out of Fitzroy Crossing. It is part of the 350 million year old Devonian Reef system. We had a great tour guide Jerome who is a local Gooniyandi man. Fitzroy crossing town is on Bunuba land and is made up of 3 local language groups: Bunuba, Walmajarri and Gooniyandi. We have so much to learn!

After our tour we drove back to FX and tried out my new fishing rod. We were told where the barramundi would be, but I think they were playing hide and seek and it was their turn to hide.

We will try again tomorrow after crafting morning.

Crafting morning is where everyone is invited to Baya Gawyi to join an online expert to make resources for the children’s centre. People also join from around Australia online. The only rule is, the first thing you make you have to send to Baya Gawyi, anything else you make you keep šŸ˜€. Tomorrow is little cowboys for the rodeo. šŸŽ

I will upload a picture of my creation and the 🐟 (Guruwa )we catch tomorrow. I hope I don’t see any Gayi (fresh water crocodiles) 🐊 tune in next week for my rodeo pics…

    1. hahah we ate some really good local steak. Everything is expensive up here except for meat. The local shop buys Kapco meat with is from local Indigenous owned pastoral stations.

Stunning photos again Wendy! What amazing memories and so much learning from your few short weeks. I’d be too nervous to stand in the water to fish! 🐊 Looking forward to your next instalment!
